Durham County Cricket Club Riverside Ground ExtensionTPi was commissioned as part of a multi disciplined team to carry out the supporting transport statement for the extension to the "Riverside" Cricket ground in Chester-le-Street. The ground has recently gained Test Match status and in order to preserve this and to further improve the facilities at the ground it was decided to erect permanent seating to replace the temporary stands that are currently used. The club wants to add a hotel to the development along with a larger conference facility and banqueting suite. It also wants to increase the number of outdoor concerts held at the ground, which in the recent past that have attracted crowds of up to 25,000. Team Leader Warren Murphy says of the project, “TPi was very pleased to be associated with such a high profile and prestigious project. Cricket has taken off in a really big way in the North East in the last decade and it is in no small part due to the work and successes of the club.” TPi’s work included organising an on-line survey of over 14,500 people that subscribe to the club’s e-newsletter. We also had to work closely with other consultancies to achieve a more sustainable approach to travelling to the ground and to improving the overall travelling experience of fans accessing the ground.
